How to Join

There is no prior experience in shooting required in order to join the club. Beginners are most welcome and will get special introductory supervision by our team coaches.

If you have any enquiries about the club or want to join please contact us or approach one of the committee members directly. The mailing list is the main form of communication within the club. Please sign up to the mailing list here.

The easiest way to join the club is to attend one of the beginners days taking place at the beginning of Michaelmas Term. To sign up for a beginners day, join the mailing list and sign up according to the instructions in the emails.

Beginners Days

We usually organise one or two larger beginners days at the beginning of Michaelmas Term taking place at Cambridge Gun Club. These usually take place one or two weeks after the Fresher's Fair and are open to all members of the university. Additional introductory sessions are available by arrangement throughout Full Term. The introductory sessions for beginners consist of two lectures about safety and gun handling and two supervised on-range sessions. Joining an introductory session allows you to try out clay pigeon shooting in a safe and enjoyable environment without the need to join the club in advance. After the introductory session you have the chance to join the club as a member (which we hope you do) or to walk away without any further obligations. You do not need to have any previous experience with shooting nor do you need to bring any of your own equipment to participate in an introductory session. We will arrange a shotgun for you to use and our coaches will coach and supervise you during the session. However, you should wear solid footwear (no sandals) and a hat or cap, and should dress warmly. Hearing and eye protection is available at the shooting ground. Introductory sessions can be arranged on Sundays during Full Term (depending on the availability and workload of our coaches). Transport to Cambridge Gun Club is available, leaving from the Faculty of English. Please contact us if you are interested in participating in a introductory session. The cost for the initial lecture and the first introductory session currently amounts to £30 per person, including ammunition and targets.
